Adding screen rules

Updated on September 14, 2021

Add screen rules to make the display names of screens more descriptive on Analysis pages and reports for analysts and other business users.

For example, Workforce Intelligence might capture several daily accounting screens that have long, vague, or confusing variations of a similar screen name, such as Daily Report - page 1, Daily Report - page 2 and so on. To change all of these variations to a single friendly display name, create a screen rule that finds screens that start with Daily Report and then changes the display name to Accounting Daily Report.
  1. In the header of Pega Workforce Intelligence, click AdministrationScreen.
  2. Review the date range in the top-right corner of the page, and change this selection if want to view applications for a different range of dates.
The data on the Screen Administration page, including the hours spent in each Production, Other Work, or Non Work application, is based on the date range that you select, as shown in the following image:
Dynamic list of results based on date range
Callout shows the hours for each application are based on a single
                                week in August.
  3. Optional: Because you can only create screen rules for an application that has screen rules turned on, sort the list by the on state.
  4. Optional: To search for an application within the list, enter search terms in the fields at the top of the list. For example:
Enter search terms to find applications
Shows billing as a search term to find a billing application.
  5. Click the application for which you want to create a screen rule.
Result: A list of screens for the application that you selected replaces the application list. If needed, you can return to the application list using the navigation link in the top-left corner. For example:
    Return to applications list
Shows a back arrow link to return to the list of
                                applications.
  6. Optional: To configure the system to search for a URL pattern, first triple-click the URL and press Ctrl+C to place it on the clipboard.
Tip: Copying the URL first makes it easier to add the URL pattern later in this task and reduces the chances of typos.
  7. At the bottom of the page, click Add Rule.
  8. In the New Screen Rule dialog box, in the Rule Name field, enter a name to help you and other administrators recognize this screen rule.
Note: You can include the following characters in the name: a-z A-Z 0-9 \ / . * ? and space.
  9. In the Priority field, enter a number to define the order in which you want Workforce Intelligence to apply the screen rule.
For example, enter 1 if you want the system to apply this rule before all other rules created for this screen.
  10. In the Enable field, complete one of the following actions:
    • To enable this screen rule upon submission, verify that the slider is blue and on the right, which is the default.
    • To disable this screen rule upon submission, click the field to move the slider to the left and change it to gray.
  11. Optional: To add opportunity or workflow tags to the screen rule, complete these steps:
    1. Click in the Tags field.
    2. Search for and select the check box for each tag that you want to add to this rule.
    3. To close the search and verify the selected tags, click outside of the Tags field.
    4. If you cannot see all of the tags that you added in the Tags field, hover over the ellipsis to view the full list in a tooltip.
  12. In the Display Name field, enter the name for the screen as it should be displayed in reports and Analysis pages for analysts and other business users.
Note: You must enter either a screen pattern or a URL pattern so that Workforce Intelligence can find the screen. You can also provide both.
  13. To enter a screen pattern, in the Screen Pattern field, enter the pattern that the system should use to find screens when applying the rule.
For example, enter the text that displays in the tab or top of the screen.
Note: You can enter a question mark (?) or an asterisk (*) to represent values in the text.
    • To replace a single character, enter a question mark (?).
    • To replace multiple characters, enter an asterisk (*).
  14. To enter a URL pattern, in the URL Pattern field, enter the URL pattern that the system should use to find screens when applying the rule.
Tip: If you copied a URL from the list of screens, press Ctrl+V to paste the URL in this field.
If you add a URL pattern, you can use portions of the path, query, and results for the rule. Workforce Intelligence ignores the protocol and domain. The following image identifies each part of a URL related to screen rules in Workforce Intelligence.

URL parts labeled to show path, query, results
Note: Only alphanumeric characters and /\.*? are allowed. You can enter a question mark (?) or an asterisk (*) to represent values in the text, including at the beginning or end of the URL.
    • To replace a single character, enter a question mark (?). For example, if a dash character (–) or another character exists, replace it with a (?).
    • To replace multiple characters, enter an asterisk (*).
  15. After you have finished defining the screen rule, click Submit.

Shows new screen rule dialog box with all fields completed
Result: The New Screen Rule dialog box closes, and Workforce Intelligence displays the screen rule at the bottom of the page, as shown in the following example:
    Screen rule added
Shows new screen rule at the bottom of the page as a line item with
all details visible such as rule and display name.
