Application overview added to App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

High-level information about an application, such as the available channel interfaces, case types, and data types, is now available in App Studio. By monitoring your project from a holistic point of view, you can make informed decisions about how and where you want to allocate your development resources.

For more information, see Application overview.

Click, record, and play UI scenario tests

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can now record, edit, and run scenario-based UI tests in end-user portals. By using scenario-based tests, developers focus on testing an application's ability to deliver real business value instead of writing code. Developers can test autogenerated and custom controls, actions, and navigation in a specific case or in an entire portal. Test recording is available on the run-time toolbar, and tests are available on a unified landing page that provides easy access to them. For more information, see Find and fix issues by using the Accessibility Inspector.

External login with OpenID Connect or SAML protocol for custom mobile apps

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

Custom mobile apps can now use single sign-on (SSO) with OpenID Connect or SAML to authenticate by using identity providers such as Google, Auth0, Okta, or Azure Active Directory (Azure AD). External login provides a convenient and secure way to access your application. Users' credentials are never shared with the custom mobile app.

For more information, see Configuring a custom mobile app to use external login with OpenID Connect or SAML protocol.

Support for inline helper text for editable form fields

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can now configure inline helper text for editable form fields. The helper text is always visible on the form, and you can style the text to override the helper-text CSS class in the Override CSS file in the skin.

Providing helper text in editable form fields helps users complete forms more quickly and efficiently.

For more information, see Adding a Text Input control.

Optimized dynamic layout for sections with no container format or header

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can set dynamic layouts to use the new optimized layout mode. When optimized, the dynamic layouts that do not include a container format or a header no longer generate extra container and body DIVs. The depth of the Document Object Model (DOM) is reduced, which makes the layouts easier to maintain. Selecting this option also enables automatic updates for new markup with each release, so that you stay current with improvements to dynamic layout markup.

You can use an Upgrade tool to convert sections that use the legacy dynamic layouts to use the new optimized dynamic layout.

For more information, see Upgrading legacy dynamic layouts to use the optimized dynamic layout.

Use spaces to collaborate with users

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can now collaborate with other users in your application on a specific area of interest by using spaces. By restricting the discussion of certain topics to the users of a space, you can avoid broadcasting irrelevant messages to all users in your application.

For more information, see:

Collaborate on shared content by using documents

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can now share additional information about cases with all users in your application by using documents. Documents enable you to view shared content on a landing page and collaborate on the content with other users in Pulse so that you can resolve cases more quickly.

For more information, see:

Protect a custom mobile app with a device lock

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

Custom mobile applications that use an external identity provider (IdP) that is compatible with OpenID Connect or SAML for login are now protected with the device's personal identification number (PIN) or biometric lock. The app user does not have to set up an additional application-specific password and can unlock the app quickly and easily. You can configure the behavior of the locking method and implement custom locking methods by using a custom native module implementation.

For more information, see Protecting your custom mobile app with a device lock.

Ability to search case attachments in Pega Cloud Services

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

File repositories in Pega Cloud Services are now indexed. Indexing allows your application users to search case attachments from end user portals based on content and metadata.

Add and manage landing pages in App Studio application menus

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

When working in App Studio, you can now create landing pages that are not directly associated with a case flow to make your application more informative. The landing pages are a good place to display the resources that are related to a case, images as well as text. Configure them to provide an overview of the work, workers, teams, reports, or any information that is available.

For more information, see Creating a landing page
