Pega Cloud Services File Storage service

Pega Cloud Services introduces Pega Cloud Services File Storage, a service that is fully integrated with the Pega Platform to support your Pega applications. New subscriptions and upgrades to the latest Pega Platform version make this the default storage repository.

For more information see Pega Cloud Services File Storage.

Pega Cloud Services introduced this new service as of QI 2018.

Support for Java 8

Pega® Cloud now supports Java 8 for all applications. Performance and security have improved with this support of the latest version of Java.

Pega Cloud introduced this enhancement as of QI 2018.

Improve application test coverage by running multiple sessions

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can improve the test coverage of your application by using a new test coverage method - Application Coverage. Multiple users can perform coverage sessions which are aggregated into a single report. By using report metrics that show the number of rules that are covered and are not covered by tests, developers can identify which areas of the application need more test coverage.

For more information, see the Test Coverage landing page.

Use fast processing option does not work

Valid from Pega Version 7.3.1

The Use fast processing option on Connect REST and Service REST rule forms does not work unless you obtain the HFix-43000 hotfix from Global Customer Service.

Use the following data model guidelines when using fast processing:

  • The JSON property names and the clipboard property names must match.
  • The JSON tree structure and the clipboard tree structure must be similar.
  • The scalar arrays in JSON must be mapped to the clipboard as page lists.
  • Multi-dimensional arrays must be mapped into page lists of page lists with the same embedded property names.

In addition, page groups, value groups, and Java objects are not supported by fast processing.

Applications not working as expected when using fast processing for Connect REST and Service REST integration

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

In Pega® Platform 7.3.1, the Use fast processing option on Connect REST and Service REST rule forms did not work. The functionality has been fixed for Pega 7.4; however, some data model guidelines must be followed. If you use this option in Pega 7.3.1, and you did not follow the guidelines, your application might not work as expected after upgrading.

REST APIs added for management of agents and requestors

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can use new REST APIs to download a module version report or manage requestors and agents in Pega Platform™. For example, you can use a requestor REST API to end a requestor process, and you can use an agent REST API to start or stop an agent. These APIs allow external systems to report and manage Pega resources.

For more information, see Pega API for Pega Platform and Pega API.

Security fields in JFrog Artifactory repository do not work

Valid from Pega Version 7.3

The fields in the Security section of the JFrog Artifactory repository rule form, including the Secure protocol field, the Truststore field, and the Keystore field, were not implemented. In the Pega™ Platform 7.3 Designer Studio help, disregard the optional Security section in step 4 of the Configuring a JFrog Artifactory or Amazon S3 repository connection help topic, and disregard the optional Security section in step 5 of the Creating a repository configuration help topic in the 7.3.1 Designer Studio help.

Data pages can source information from a robotic desktop automation

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can now configure data pages to source information from robotic desktop automations (RDA). Using an RDA to source a data page allows you to connect your Pega Platform™ application to any application that is accessible from an end-user's desktop. By using automations to retrieve data and load it into a data page, you can use data virtualization to separate your Pega Platform data model from the physical interface of a legacy system against which the automation is running.

For more information, see Obtaining information from robotic automations.

Unit testing support for more rule types

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

You can now create unit tests for the following additional rule types. You can also create assertions to validate activity status. The expanded rule types for unit testing enable developers to more thoroughly perform regression testing of their application, thereby improving application quality.

  • Collection
  • Declare expression
  • Map value
  • Report definition

For more information about unit testing rules, see Pega unit test cases.

Upgrade impact

With the four new rule types, unit test execution and unit test compliance metrics will change. Reports on automated unit testing of the customer application decrease due to the increased pool of supported rules.

What steps are required to update the application to be compatible with this change?

After a successful upgrade, create Pega unit test cases for the newly supported rules to see updated and accurate unit test metrics.

Use Page-Change-Class method to change a Page class

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

With the release of Pega Platform™ 8.3, using the Property-Set method to change the Page class shows a guardrail warning. Use the Page-Change-Class method to change the Page class instead.

For more information about the Page-Change-Class method, see Changing the class of a page and Page-Change-Class method.
