Building custom mobile apps that require a password to start

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.1

To provide extra protection of local data, you can now require user passwords for custom mobile apps. Requiring a password can increase the app's initiation time, but additional protection might be needed for applications that store sensitive information. In Designer Studio, on the Mobile tab, select Enforce user password on start to require user passwords.

For more information, see Configuring password enforcement.

Building custom mobile apps based on an explicit version of Hybrid Container

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.1

You can now lock the version of Hybrid Container on which your custom mobile app is built in Designer Studio. Locking the version helps avoid compatibility issues with the devices that are used in your organization. To lock the version of Hybrid Container, you must set the version in a .pyHCBuildVersion declare expression for a specific application.

For more information, see Building custom mobile apps based on a selected version of Hybrid Container.

Open cases in a mobile app with push notifications sent from Pega 7 Platform applications

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.1

Push notification smart shapes in a workflow of a Pega 7 Platform application can now send push notifications that open a case in a custom mobile app. Users working in the field can use this feature to instantly access priority assignments instead of having to search for changes manually.

For more information, see Configuring the Push Notification shape.

Adjust case urgency in Case Designer

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.1

You can now provide an urgency when configuring the goal and deadline for a case type in Case Designer. By increasing the urgency of a case that has an expired service-level agreement, you can call attention to unresolved work in your application.

For more information, see Setting goals and deadlines for a case type.

Support for advanced validation conditions for fields on a form

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.1

You can now create complex conditions to validate fields on a form to ensure that a step proceeds only when user input meets expected values. Use the AND and OR operators inside conditions so that the conditions can reference more than one field.

For more information, see Advanced validation conditions for fields on a form.

Cannot send mobile push notifications when the Pega 7 Platform is hosted on WebSphere Application Server

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.1

Push notifications are not sent to Android or iOS mobile apps when the Pega 7 Platform is hosted on WebSphere Application Server.

Pega Survey documentation refers to deprecated field

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.1

The documentation for Pega® Survey refers to the Answer Layout field on the Complex Question form, but this field is no longer supported. For more information about the question layout formats that Pega Survey supports, see Pega Survey.

Remote device log retrieval from online-only mobile apps

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

In addition to device logs from offline-enabled mobile apps, Pega Mobile Client™ can now upload device logs from online-only mobile apps. The upload to Pega Platform™ starts when a user restarts the mobile app. You retrieve device logs from a specific device to support remote users and troubleshoot mobile apps.

For more information, see Retrieving device logs.

Improved mobile user experience with spaces

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

Spaces in mobile apps have been enhanced to provide a wider screen area for navigation between content tabs such as Pulse, Boards, Subspaces, and Tasks. Mobile users can now use native selection controls to choose from the same space-specific actions that are available to users of desktop-based applications. The enhancement improves the usability of spaces and promotes collaboration between mobile users.

Spaces on mobile apps do not require any additional configuration.

For more information about spaces, see Collaborating with users by using spaces.

Increased display area in mobile apps

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

Mobile apps now support hiding the top and bottom bars when the user scrolls down. When the user scrolls up, the bars appear again. This enhancement improves the mobile user experience by presenting more data on the screen, for example, a longer list of items.

For more information, see Advanced layout options.
