Split schema upgrade instructions missing properties

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.3

If you upgraded from 5.x, 6.x, or 7.x using the instructions in previous versions of the upgrade guide, you may have neglected to set the properties below in your migrateSystem.properties file when you migrated your upgraded schema to the source system:

pega.rules.objects.generate=true

pega.rules.objects.apply=true

If these properties were not set during an upgrade that splits the schema, your environment does not have the indexes, triggers, and primary keys on the rules tables.

To check for this issue, see if the pr4_base and pr4_rule rules tables in your existing rules schema are missing primary keys. If they are, use the SQL scripts in the ResourceKit\MigrationRecoveryScripts directory of the release to cleanup duplicate rules that were created due to this issue. Follow the steps below to run the scripts.

To run the scripts on Microsoft SQL, Oracle, or PostgreSLQ

  1. Take down any app servers using the affected schema.
  2. Backup your database.
  3. Replace all instances of @RULES_SCHEMA in <database>_cleanDups.sql with the name of the schema that contains the pr4_base table.
  4. Run the <database>_cleanDups.sql script on the database with vendor tools (sqlPlus, SQL Server Management Studio, etc).
  5. Replace all instances of @RULES_SCHEMA in <database>_fix_vw_table.sql with the name of the schema that contains the pr4_base table.
  6. Run the <database>_fix_vw_table.sql script on the database with vendor tools (sqlPlus, SQL Server Management Studio, etc).
  7. Generate and apply the ddl using the command line generateDDL command. Check the installation guide for your database or the upgrade guide for details about how to use the generateDDL command line script.
  8. Rebuild the indexes for the tables in your rules schema using vendor tools. This is necessary so that your system runs at an optimum speed.
  9. Optionally upgrade to the latest release, at this point your database is ready to be upgraded or used depending on your needs.

To run the scripts on DB2 for LUW or z/OS

  1. Take down any app servers using the affected schema.
  2. Backup your database.
  3. Run the <database>_cleanDups.sql script on the database with vendor tools (UDB CLP, Data Studio, etc) to create the CLEANSE_RULES_DUPS stored procedure.
  4. Run the query Call CLEANSE_RULES_DUPS(‘<rulesSchema>’); where <rulesSchema> is the name of schema that contains the pr4_base table.
  5. After the previous step is complete drop the CLEANSE_RULES_DUPS procedure.
  6. Replace all instances of @RULES_SCHEMA in <database>_fix_vw_table.sql with the name of the schema that contains the pr4_base table.
  7. Run the <database>_fix_vw_table.sql script on the database with vendor tools (UDB CLP, Data Studio, etc).
  8. Generate and apply the ddl using the command line generateDDL command. Check the installation guide for your database or the upgrade guide for details about how to use the generateDDL command line script.
  9. Rebuild the indexes for the tables in your rules schema using vendor tools. This is necessary so that your system runs at an optimum speed.
  10. Optionally upgrade to the latest release. At this point your database is ready to be upgraded or used depending on your needs.

Updated Word merge support with Microsoft Silverlight plug-in

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.3

Starting in this release, Pega 7 features that integrate with the Word merge capability are now cross-browser. ActiveX controls (which are only compatible with Internet Explorer) have been replaced with Microsoft Silverlight. This plug-in must be downloaded separately from Microsoft because it is not shipped with Pega 7.

Common features that are affected by this change include the Specification form and Case Type landing page.

Prior to using these features, see the release note Word merge support with Microsoft Silverlight plug-in for more information about setting up their client systems.

Discontinued support for list view and summary view rules

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

The list view rule and the summary view rule are deprecated, and support for these rules has been discontinued. Existing list view and summary view reports will continue to work on supported browsers. However, the last version of Internet Explorer that list view and summary view rules support is Internet Explorer 11.

You cannot create new list view or summary view reports. Instead, create list reports and summarized reports by using the report definition rule. To prevent display issues, re-create the custom list view and summary view reports that you need as report definition reports.

Label changes to field types in Case Designer

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

The following field types have been renamed in Case Designer to be consistent with Data Designer and other areas of the Pega 7 Platform.

Label in previous versionsLabel in Pega 7.2
TextText (single line)
Text (multiple lines)Text (paragraph)
Check boxBoolean
Date and timeDate & time
DateDate only
Drop downPicklist
Number (integer)Integer
Number (decimal)Decimal

Users who upgrade from versions prior to Pega 7.2 do not have to take any action because the label changes are cosmetic and do not affect the underlying controls or property types that support form building.

For more information about the field types that you can use when building a form, see Storage and display of single-value fields.

Process Outline view is unavailable

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

Process Outline view is no longer available as of this release. Use Case Designer instead to configure your processes. For advanced options, you can open the underlying flow for a process in Process Modeler.

For more information, see Designing a case type and Diagram tab on the Flow form.

New location for case-type settings

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

The configuration options for case-type settings have been moved from the property panel to the Settings tab in Case Designer. This change separates behavioral settings from life-cycle settings so that you can stay focused as you design your case types.

For more information, see Configuring case-type behavior.

No private posts in new Pulse gadget

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

The new Pulse gadget does not support private posts. When you upgrade to the new gadget, any private posts of the following types that you created by using the previous version of the gadget become public.

  • Operator posts
  • Case posts
  • Posts that used the generic pxPostMessage API with private posts enabled
  • Posts that used the Pulse smart shape in PRPC 6.3 or earlier with private posts enabled

For more information about the new Pulse gadgets for developers, Pulse gadgets and custom APIs.

For more information about the using the new Pulse gadget, see Communicating with Pulse.

Atom Server and SOAP Server rule forms are deprecated

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

The Atom Server and SOAP Server rule forms are deprecated. Use the Connect CMIS rule form instead.

Existing rules that were created with the deprecated forms still work, but you cannot create new ones.

End of support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

In accordance with Microsoft’s announcement to discontinue support for Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10 in January 2016, Pega 7.2 will be the last version of the Pega 7 Platform to support Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10.

For Pega 7.2.1, you must upgrade to Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 or later, or use Google Chrome, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox.

For more information about browser support, see the Platform Support Guide or contact Pegasystems Global Customer Support.

Processes run by default when a stage is restarted

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

The Run on re-entry check box in Case Designer has been removed. As a result of this change, processes run by default each time that a stage is restarted. Users who previously had this check box cleared can use the Start when option in Case Designer instead to define the criteria for skipping a process.

For more information, see Adding a process to a stage.
