Search and Reporting does not index large items

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

When using the Search and Reporting (SRS) microservice in Pega Platform™ 8.5, you might encounter problems with indexing large out-of-the-box rules. The issue is not visible in Queue Processors, but you can access logs to verify which items the system does not index.

Ability to persist request data for synchronous REST Service failures

Valid from Pega Version 7.3

Request data can now be persisted when synchronous REST Service processing fails. To ensure that data is not lost and can be reprocessed, set the Execution Mode on the rule form to Execute synchronously (queue on error).

For more information see Service REST form - Completing the Service tab.

Create and view application settings in App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

View your application settings on the new Application settings landing page in App Studio. The landing page displays the categories that you specified for your application settings. If you did not specify a category for an application setting, the application setting appears in the Uncategorized category. Additionally, when you create a new data type, the Data type wizard automatically creates an application setting for the base URLs and the authentication profile. On the Environment settings page, you can edit the application setting to specify a new name or category or accept the default values.

For more information, see Viewing application settings in App Studio and Preparing your data for production.

Upgrade impact

After a successful upgrade, you see the new Application Settings option under Settings in App Studio.

What steps are required to update the application to be compatible with this change?

  1. If the label (Application Settings) conflicts with your existing extension, change the label by overriding the following field value:
    PEGA-EXT- EXPEXPLORER-SETTINGS-APPSETTINGS PYCAPTIONIEXTENSION!LABEL
  2. If you need to disable the landing page and prevent it from appearing in App studio, change the following toggle to No:
    PegaRULES: DisableSettingsLandingPage

Run advanced agents on only one node in a cluster

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

You can now configure an advanced agent to run on only one node in a cluster at a specified time. In addition, you can specify the time interval within which an advanced agent runs on only one node in the cluster, which avoids having two advanced agents starting to run on the same node at the same time.

For more information, see Improved control for running advanced agents and Agents rules – Completing the Schedule tab.

Layout groups support icons and titles in headers

Valid from Pega Version 7.3

You can now include icons or cells to enhance the design of layout group headers. On the properties panel, select Include icon with title under Container settings to add icons and titles in the layout headers. Also, the layout group control can now refresh the content of a dynamic layout if the layout is active.

For more information, see Adding a Layout Group.

New PegaRULES:PegaAPISysAdmin role

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

The role PegaRULES:PegaAPISysAdmin has been added to the Pega 7 Platform. This required role gives system administrators access to the Pega API REST User Services and is not required for other services.

For more information, see Securing the Pega API.

Create case and Wait smart shapes are available for stage steps

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

You can design case types more efficiently by using smart shapes, which are steps with preconfigured functionality. Use the Create case step to create a case from an existing case type, or to create a new case type, and transfer information from the original case to the new one. Use the Wait step to pause case processing until another case reaches a specified status.

For more information, see Adding a preconfigured step to a process.

Automatic management of run-time context for background processing

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

Management of system run-time context is now automatic. You no longer need to manually modify the AsyncProcessor requestor type context to make a queue processor or job scheduler work after importing or upgrading an application. Additionally, you do not need to manually modify the AsyncProcessor requestor type context to make new queue processors and job schedulers work.

For more information, see System general landing page and Automating the runtime context management of background processes.

Upgrade impact

After upgrade, you manage the runtime context of your background processing in System Runtime Context instead of in the deprecated AsyncProcessor requestor type.

What steps are required to update the application to be compatible with this change?

Select the Include in background processing option in the Advanced section of the application rule form for all applications that use background processing (such as Job Schedulers and Queue Processing). When this option is enabled, the system automatically includes the rulesets (for the application and its components) in System Runtime Context used for resolving and running Queue Processors and Job Schedulers. Also, when the option is enabled, the application is placed on the System Runtime Context list during application rule saves (such as during application import and migration).

Limited action set for mobile-optimized grid layouts

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

The grid layout supports a limited action set when you select the Optimize for mobile mode. Actions allow you to determine the behavior of the grid. When Optimize for mobile is selected on the General tab of the grid layout properties, the following actions are available on the Actions tab:

  • Set focus
  • Open work by handle
  • Open assignment
  • Edit item

For more information, see Optimize repeating grid layouts for mobile.

Existing operator IDs during upgrades and updates

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

Upgrades and updates are always performed in secured mode to help prevent unauthorized access to your system. In secured mode, the [email protected] operator ID is always overwritten, but other existing standard operator IDs are not modified. New operator IDs are inserted in secured mode. For more information, see the Deployment Guide for your environment.
