Improved user experience for Cosmos React mobile apps

Valid from Pega Version 8.6

Mobile apps that you build for Cosmos React applications now feature a highly performant and responsive user interface that improves the overall user experience.

Native case pages

Prescriptive mobile case pages are now faster and more reliable. Mobile case pages display views and widgets as cards and group the cards into user-friendly tabs. Users can navigate the tabs by swiping left or right. From the case page, users can also edit case page details by selecting the floating action button, or choose an optional action from the case header drop-down menu.

To improve collaboration, prescriptive mobile case pages support the Pulse widget, as well as uploading, viewing, and downloading case attachments.

Improved case processing

The case processing interface on mobile devices is now more reliable and ensures a smooth experience for case workers. After users complete an assignment, Cosmos React apps display the task that is next in the flow that you define for the case type. Optional actions open in an overlay drawer component that users can minimize when they need to multitask while processing cases.

Form validation in real time

Validation of user input for mobile forms is now highly responsive thanks to real-time validation. To ensure that users enter data correctly, forms support validation expressions that you define in App Studio. Expressions are processed on the client side to further improve app performance.

Native Android and iOS controls

Cosmos React apps use a selection of native Android and iOS controls that make mobile apps faster and more intuitive to use. The native controls include map and location controls, date and time pickers, and controls for adding attachments.

In Pega Platform™ version 8.6, mobile features in Cosmos React applications are available only as a preview, with limited support for various interface elements and features, such as offline mode. The recommended production design system for Pega Mobile in Pega Platform 8.6 is Theme Cosmos.

For more information about the Cosmos React design system, see Cosmos React (early adopter) and UI architecture comparison.

Improved scrollable layouts in a new harness

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

By default, you can now create a new harness with a screen layout instead of as a container with a cell structure. This change ensures that you can create an application layout more efficiently; for example, you can specify a scroll area exactly the way you want in a desktop application or a mobile app. You can arrange the header, footer, and main area content at the new harness level by using sections. For example, you can specify headers and footers to be fixed or to scroll with the page. New layout options are configurable in the skin. Different layout selections are available when you use the harness as an app view, a main area, inner harness, or a page view.

For more information, see Configuring a screen layout.

New Automated Testing landing page

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

The new Automated Testing landing page displays all the PegaUnit test cases in your application. You can use it to quickly access, run, and view results of tests. In addition, if you have the AutomatedTesting privilege enabled, you can switch to the Automated Unit Testing landing page to access rules that are supported by both PegaUnit testing and Automated Unit Testing, such as activities.

For more information, refer to Automated Testing landing page.

Text analytics infrastructure upgraded to Java version 1.7

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

The JAR libraries that support the text analytics features of the Pega 7 Platform have been upgraded to Java 1.7. As a result of the upgrade, you can validate the Ruta scripts that contain entity extraction models and view error reports if the imported Ruta scripts are invalid. This upgrade helps you to ensure that the structure of the entity extraction models that you import to your application is always correct.

For more information, see Text Analyzer.

External data flow rules are removed

Valid from Pega Version 8.6

In previous versions of Pega Platform™, you could configure data flows to run in an external Hadoop environment. The external data flows functionality was deprecated and hidden from view in Pega Platform 8.5. The functionality has been now removed and is no longer available in Pega Platform 8.6.

For more information, see External data flow rules are deprecated.

Single sign-on (SSO) support for Box

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

You can now use SSO integration with Box so that users who have already been authenticated are not asked to reauthenticate when accessing Box from their Pega application. The Pega application and the Box application must use the same identity provider federation. This capability provides an integrated user experience and supports automated case processing of attachments.

For more information, see Authentication Profile data instances - Completing the OAuth 2.0 tab.

Discovery features for access control policies

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

Access control policies now support discovery features that allow end users to view limited, customizable information about class instances that fail Read policies but satisfy Discover policies. Two types of Discovery gadgets are provided, and when discovery features are enabled, a Discovery gadget is included in the Report Viewer and in search results. Developers can customize these gadgets and include them in other parts of an application user interface.

For more information, see Discovery features for access control policies.

Simplified support for external log management systems

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.2

Simplified support for external log management systems such as ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) makes it easier to implement an external log management system. An external log management system can improve access to system log files that help diagnose and debug issues by eliminating the need to download log files from each node in the cluster.

For information about configuring ELK, see Configuring ELK for log management.

For information about using Kibana to view log files, see Pega logs in Kibana.

Nested conditions visible in the condition builder

Valid from Pega Version 8.6

Condition builder now supports the option to view nested conditions in a read-only mode, so that you can conveniently analyze and understand logic in your application. For example, if you create a condition that uses another When condition rule as a value to compare at run time, you can preview the configuration of that When condition. You can use this feature with When conditions nested at multiple levels, so that you can analyze even complex logic in your application.

For more information, see Defining conditions in the condition builder.

Enhanced performance and usability of Cosmos React tables

Valid from Pega Version 8.6

With the new Cosmos React tables, you can now handle large data sets with no impact on performance or user experience. Cosmos React tables now also come with a rich set of field-type specific column formats, which you can conveniently change at design time as well as at run time, depending on your needs. For example, you can now do the following actions:

  • Customize a date column from a default format (MMDDYY) to readable text ("10 days ago").
  • Save the new setting in your personalized view.
  • Freeze and rearrange columns.
  • Enable aggregations (sum, min, max, avg) on the number and currency fields.
  • Display aggregation values also at the grouped-row level.

The new enhancements make data in tables more easily explorable and significantly reduce the need to produce additional reports.

For more information, see Enhance the user experience with new Cosmos React tables (8.6)Configuring a React table in a section (for Theme Cosmos applications), and Configuring lists (for Cosmos React applications).
