Improved performance for work ID generation

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

Work IDs are now generated in batches and managed with dynamic system settings. Batch-based ID generation improves performance and scalability, which reduces the time that it takes to migrate data to a Pega Platform™ application.

For more information, see Default dynamic system settings data instances.

Upgrade impact

In a multi-node environment, the new ID generation method can assign IDs that are not as sequential as in the previous method.

For example, in a 2-node cluster, the IDs could come in from each node in batches of 1000, resulting in successive Work objects having IDs that differ by 1000 (such as 1, 1001, 2,1002, 3, 1003). As more Work objects are created the gaps can get filled. However, there might still be gaps left in the generated IDs.  For example, if a node crashes or shuts down, some IDs would be missing, or if a node has given out 600 IDs from a batch of 1000 IDs, then 400 IDs would remain unused. In most situations, this should not be an issue.

What steps are required to update the application to be compatible with this change?

If you must have nearly sequential IDs or cannot accept gaps in IDs (and do not need the performance improvement), then you can change the dynamic system setting to disable the new ID generation method.

The dynamic system setting for this feature is idGenerator/defaultBatchSize. The feature is enabled by default with a defaultBatchSize of 1000. To disable the feature, set the value to 1.

Web mashups preview

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

App Studio now has a preview mode that shows how an integrated Pega application is displayed on a chosen website. You can try different host sites, as well as window sizing types and skins, to find the best presentation options.

For more information, see Creating a mashup demo.

Device preview includes a configurable list of common mobile devices

Valid from Pega Version 7.2.1

Pega Express device preview displays your application in a simulated mobile device. By previewing your application, you can view the user experience on a desktop, tablet, or phone. You can select from a list of common devices or add devices to the list by editing Pega-DevicePreview-Device.

For more information, see Previewing an application on a mobile device.

Data synchronization does not resume after mobile app restart

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

If an offline-enabled mobile app that you build with Pega Infinity Mobile Client is stopped during an initial data synchronization session, the data synchronization does not resume when the mobile app is restarted. Users must not stop the mobile app before initial data synchronization finishes.

For more information about data synchronization, see Offline capability and Guidelines for creating an offline-enabled application.

Scenario tests are reusable

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

Existing scenario tests are now reusable in different business scenarios. Before Pega 8.3, you had to create a new test every time a user interface or process flow changed significantly. Now, scenario tests are editable to help you maintain the test stack more effectively.

For more information, see Updating scenario tests.

Redirectguests mashup configuration has been removed

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

The authentication/redirectguests server configuration and data-pega-redirectguests attribute have been removed and are no longer required when you configure a mashup. This prevents you from needing to maintain multiple nodes to support some use cases that require the configuration value to be true and other uses cases that require the configuration value to be false.

For more information, see Configuring the Mashup channel.

Prediction Studio notifications

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

Prediction Studio now displays notifications when adaptive or predictive models encounter problems. For example, if the performance of a model decreases suddenly, a notification appears, which you can use to immediately investigate the cause of the problem.

For more information, see Accessing Prediction Studio notifications and Prediction Studio notification types.

Native header with left and right actions for mobile apps

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

With Pega Infinity Mobile Client™, mobile apps can now use a native header with custom left and right actions for navigation. A native header standardizes the user experience of navigating between the screens of your app. For example, users can navigate to the previous screen with a swipe right gesture or the native back button.

For more information, see Enhancing a mobile app with the native header.

Support for the decisioning-enabled NLP text analyzer in IVAs and Email Bots

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

You can now use the new intelligent natural language processing (iNLP) text analyzer in Pega Intelligent Virtual Assistants™ (IVAs) and Pega Email Bots™. This advanced text analyzer is decisioning-enabled and empowers IVA or Email Bot for all conversational channels to provide smarter responses. The decisioning capability in the system integrates text analytics with strategies, prepositions, and interaction history, to provide the context for making better next-best-action decisions.

For more information, see Use the decisioning-enabled NLP text analyzer in IVAs and Email Bots, Defining advanced Facebook text analyzer configuration and Facebook channel behavior.

Upgrade impact

Existing channels remain with the current configuration, and their current functionality does not change. Channels created after the upgrade automatically use the new text analyzer.

What steps are required to update the application to be compatible with this change?

The new text analyzer is enabled or disabled using a new interactive API (iAPI) selection, which is selected by default for new channels. You can disable the iAPI for new channels if you want to maintain current functionality. You can also enable it for existing channels if you want to move existing channels to the new functionality.

More action types on the bottom bar

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

Pega Infinity Mobile Client™ now provides more flexible bottom bar configuration with a broader choice of actions, so that your apps can be more useful. For example, users can now create work items, open work items, or log out directly from the bottom bar of a mobile app.

For more information, see Configuring the bottom bar.
