Database storage used for passivation in High Availability mode

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.9

When an application is running in High Availability mode, the value attribute for initialization/persistrequestor/storage in the prconfig.xml file or the Dynamic System Settings now defaults to "database."

Previously, applications running in High Availability mode required shared passivation, where either initialization/persistrequestor/storage was set to “OnTimeout” or a custom passivation mechanism was used. The change to using database by default provides persistent storage for passivation, and provides control for the landing page for High Availability.

For more information, see Understanding passivation and requestor timeouts and the High Availability Administration Guide.

Mobile user interface updates

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

Several improvements have been made to the mobile-related user interface of the Pega 7 Platform. The content of the Mobile tab on the Application rule form has been redesigned. The Offline Configuration and Mobile Certificates landing pages are now available. The Signature Capture control has improved. Post-processing can now occur after the signature has been captured. You can auto-submit with the form submit. You can apply the signature to a page instead of applying it as an attachment to the case. The clear action completely removes the signature from the work object, keeping only the latest iteration of the signature. Touch interactions have been significantly improved. Response time is faster and there is better feedback on the touch action.

Free Text Model rule form enhancements

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

Enhancements to the Free Text Model rule in DSM expand the text analysis functionality. On the Select Analysis tab, you can include text analysis models in the sentiment or classification analysis. This option enables the combination of rule-based and machine-based learning approaches in text analysis and provides more accurate and reliable results. On the new Advanced tab, you can configure language detection settings, enable spell checking, set the score range for the neutral sentiment, and control the text categorization settings based on various criteria.

For more information, see Text analytics enhancements.

Savable data pages support loading pages individually from a page list

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

You can now load individual pages in a page list from single object data pages to your case and data types. This functionality allows you to save autopopulated properties with the Load each page individually option using a flow action, save data page smart shape, or the activity method.

For more information, see Saving data in a data page as part of a flow.

Consistent search experience in App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

Pega Platform™ now supports a unified search mechanism in App Studio. Instead of manually locating a single item, such as a case type, a channel, or a data object, you can simply use the Search option in the navigation pane. You can also use Search in case types and personas landing pages, to conveniently access the information that you need, for example channels and case types associated with a persona.

For more information, see Plan your Microjourneys more conveniently in an improved Case Designer (8.5)Creating a Microjourney for customer success.

Improved experience when building an IVA and Email Bot in App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

Build your Pega Intelligent Virtual Assistant™ (IVA) and Pega Email Bot™ while working only in App Studio. This approach makes the design process easier and more intuitive, and saves you time. You can now modify the advanced text analyzer configuration while working in App Studio. In addition, if you have access to Dev Studio, you can edit the text analyzer rule from App Studio for your chatbot or email bot by clicking a link to open the settings in Dev Studio.

For more information, see Adding a text analyzer for an email bot and Adding a text analyzer for an IVA.

Stage-based revision and change request management enhancements

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

The revision and change request processes are based on the case management capabilities provided by the Pega 7 Platform. The customizable flows that controlled the behavior of the revision and change request management (pyManageRevision, pyManageChangeSet, pyApproveChangeSet, and pyDirectDeployment) are now part of the Revision and Change Request case types that govern the behavior of revision management. The change from flow-based to stage-based revision management makes the process more transparent and easier to modify.

For more information, see Stage-based revision and change request management.

Default value of the threadpoolsize agent affects batch indexing

Valid from Pega Version 8.5.2

After you patch Pega Platform to version 8.5.2 or higher, the system changes the default value of the threadpoolsize agent, which controls the number of concurrent activities (threads) in the system, from 5 to 15. Batch indexing in Pega Platform does not require all 15 threads, so you can change the agent value to increase system performance by managing the indexing/distributed/batch/numworkers dynamic system setting.
If your deployment does not support that setting, and batch indexing does not use Queue Processors, the system uses the threadpoolsize value for batch indexing instead.

For more information, see Editing a dynamic system setting.

Enhanced refresh token strategy

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

You now have more precise control over your refresh token expiration strategy. When a refresh token is enabled, you can choose to set its initial expiration based on the value provided by the IDP. The refresh token expiry can be derived from IDP’s session timeout when SSO is used with external IDP for user authentication in the authorization code grant flow. You can also specify a separate refresh token expiration strategy based on your use-case.

These can be configured in the OAuth2 Client registration rule form.

For more information, see Enhanced refresh token strategy.

Conversion of single-step assignments is no longer required

Valid from Pega Version 7.2

You no longer need to create a single-step assignment in a case type and then convert it to another supported step type. Instead, you can use the + Add step option in Case Designer to add any step type directly to a process in a stage. This change delivers a more consistent experience to users who are working in Case Designer and Process Modeler.

The following table lists the step labels in Case Designer that were updated to support this change.
