Use client-based access control to support EU GDPR requirements

You can use client-based access control (CBAC) to satisfy the data privacy requirements of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar regulations. By using client-based access control, you can identify the personal data of clients and automatically process requests to view, update, or remove the data in a secure manner. You can also enforce restrictions on the use of this data in application functions.

Accessibility Inspector identifies accessibility issues in real time

The new Accessibility Inspector finds accessibility issues in your application and helps you to quickly fix these issues. Accessible applications accommodate a range of users with varying degrees of visual ability and might be required by regulation. The Accessibility Inspector, which you open from the run-time toolbar, is displayed on the right side of the page and highlights content, structure, compatibility, and interaction issues. You can click through an accessibility warning to open the affected element and fix the issue. Enabling access to upgraded help

After upgrading to Pega Platform ™ 8.1, the default URL to the upgraded help files might be incorrect. To enable access to the latest help files, reset the URL:

1. In the header of Dev Studio, click Configure > System > Settings > URLs.
2. Enter the Online Help URL:

   https://community.pega.com/sites/default/files/help_v81/

3. Click Save.
4. Log out and log back into Pega Platform.

Autogenerated controls have unique IDs

Autogenerated controls have a unique ID by default. This unique ID ensures that the Document Object Model (DOM) is HTML5-compliant and avoids problems that can be caused by elements having the same ID. The setting to enable or disable unique IDs is on the HTML5 Application Readiness page.

Accessibility support using WAI-ARIA roles

The Pega 7 Platform supports accessibility by using Web Accessibility Initiative Accessible Rich Internet Application (WAI-ARIA) roles. WAI-ARIA roles are a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) ontology that specifies roles, states, or properties for each user interface element. Roles provide semantic information about features, structures, and behaviors that assistive technologies use to convey information to users.

• The dynamic container is marked as the main content area by default. When a user tabs through a page, the user can choose to follow a skip to the main content link by pressing the Enter key.
• WAI-ARIA roles are included by default on screen layouts, and each panel of the screen layout is assigned a role that is based on its position.
• Dynamic layouts can be configured with a specific WAI-ARIA role, depending on the function of the layout in the user interface.

More quality metrics on the Application Quality dashboard

On the Application Quality dashboard, for each case type you can now view quality metrics such as guardrail score, test coverage percentage, unit test pass rate, list of guardrail of warnings, uncovered rules, and failed Pega unit tests. These metrics are also available for rules that are used in the application but that are not a part of any case type. To access these metrics, on the Application Quality dashboard list of case types, click Find issues.

Updates to the Event Strategy rule

When you design event strategies, you can use the Filter shape for basic arithmetic and text expressions. You can also specify start conditions for the tumbling and sliding windows.

Set the status of a case on stage entry

You can now set the status of a case when it enters a stage. By setting the status of a case on stage entry, you can communicate to stakeholders how close a stage is to resolution. For example, if a case is in the approval stage, you can set the status of the case to "Under review" when the case enters the stage.

DCO Compatibility tool is deprecated

The DCO Compatibility tool has been deprecated. Use the Application Guardrails landing page to see the compliance score and any warnings for your application.

Click, record, and play UI scenario tests

You can now record, edit, and run scenario-based UI tests in end-user portals. By using scenario-based tests, developers focus on testing an application's ability to deliver real business value instead of writing code. Developers can test autogenerated and custom controls, actions, and navigation in a specific case or in an entire portal. Test recording is available on the run-time toolbar, and tests are available on a unified landing page that provides easy access to them.
