EAR support for JBoss EAP 6

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.5

PRPC deployment in JBoss EAP 6 as an EAR archive is now supported.

If you need to deploy the JBoss EAR file, go to My Support Portal and submit a Support Request. GCS can assist you with the procedure.

DB2-LUW database logfile size increase

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.5

This issue applies to DB2-LUW database platforms only.

To avoid running out of logfile space due to large transaction sets during the rule base load of a Pega 7.1.x install, upgrade, or maintenance level update, systems supported by a DB2-LUW database platform should increase the LOGFILSIZ parameter to at least 4096 pages from the default size of 1000 pages.

After the size has been increased, restart the database to ensure that the new setting is loaded into the database correctly.

System Management

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

Refinements were made to out-of-place upgrade documentation and processes, as well as for how handling is performed for all of the database vendor specific nuances related to a deploying into a split schema environment.

  • A script was created to run the data schema upgrade for z/OS systems.
  • In a split-schema configuration, indexing has been enhanced.
  • The product installer has been enhanced.
  • The stand-alone Static Assembly Utility does not require a password for its process.
  • The UpdateManager tool has been improved.

Internet Explorer 11 support

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.5

7.1.5 now provides support for Internet Explorer 11 (IE11). For those customers interested in information about IE11 support in previous releases, refer to the Platform Support Guide.

Additional upgrade scripts for new columns

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

In Version 6.2, additional columns (Major, Minor, and Patch) containing ruleset Version information were added to 15 tables in the PRPC database. When upgrading from a pre-Pega 7 release, scripts must be manually run after the upgrade to populate these columns.

These scripts are located in the Resource Kit, under Additional Upgrade Scripts.

  • If upgrading to a single schema, run both scripts.
  • If upgrading to a split schema, run the _data script against the data schema and run the _rules script against the rules schema.
Depending upon your database type (platform) and the size of your database, these scripts may require significant time and system resources to run.

Choose the scripts for your database type:

  • db2zos_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • db2zos_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

  • mssql_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • mssql_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

  • oracle_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • oracle_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

  • postgres_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • postgres_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

  • udb_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • udb_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

Redesigned Attachment Categories tab

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.5

The Attachment Categories tab on the case type record has been redesigned as follows:

  • In the Category field, you can associate case types with a case by selecting one in the application ruleset stack, or create a new one by typing a name in the field.

When you add a category to the list and save the record, the system automatically generates a page list property that that can be used to easily reference attachments by category.

In the example shown below, the page list property AuditComplianceAttachments can be used to access a list of attachments in the Audit Compliance category.

For ease of use during your design session, you can access this functionality using the "Attachments" option on the Case Designer Details tab.

The new function alias pxIsAttachmentOfCategoryInCase checks if an attachment of a particular category is attached to a case.

  • Auto-Attach capabilities are deprecated but still supported. The tab displays a read-only list of attachments that were configured with this feature in previous releases.
    • To remove this capability, delete the item.
    • For new development, use the Attach Content smart shape in your process diagram.

Updated Word merge support with Microsoft Silverlight plug-in

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.3

Starting in this release, Pega 7 features that integrate with the Word merge capability are now cross-browser. ActiveX controls (which are only compatible with Internet Explorer) have been replaced with Microsoft Silverlight. This plug-in must be downloaded separately from Microsoft because it is not shipped with Pega 7.

Common features that are affected by this change include the Specification form and Case Type landing page.

Prior to using these features, see the release note Word merge support with Microsoft Silverlight plug-in for more information about setting up their client systems.

Need to run script before updating Multitenant systems

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.5

When updating or upgrading a Multitenant system from Pega 7.1.5 or 7.1.6 to Pega 7.1.7, if that system uses either an Oracle or a PostgreSQL database, you may encounter the error:

“Table must be empty to add column.”

The Multitenant architecture requires an additional column on a number of the PRPC database tables (“pzTenantID”). In Pega 7.1.7, two additional PRPC tables were tenant-qualified: pc_schedule_task and pr_index_schedule_task. The Multitenant column is added to these tables by the update/upgrade process. However, Oracle and PostgreSQL do not allow the addition of a non-null column to an existing table unless the table is empty, so updating or upgrading systems on those databases displays the error detailed above.

To avoid this error, before beginning the update or upgrade, it is necessary to run a script:

  • OracleOracleMTupgrade.sql
  • PostgreSQLPostgresMTupgrade.sql

For updates, these scripts are located in the /scripts/ddl directory.

For upgrades, these scripts are located in the /Resourcekit/AdditionalUpgradeScripts directory.

User Interface

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

This release had a focus around improving support for accessibility for all the PRPC UI Components as well as extending capabilities for responsive design with grids and tabs. A series of cosmetic changes and fixes are included.

  • Improvements have been made for action items being opened in a dynamic container.
  • Row repeat functionality in sections has been improved to better handle source properties.
  • Screen layouts have been optimized for the iPhone platform
  • The display on dynamic containers has been enhanced to provide the same behavior for both single-mode and multi-mode.
  • The Launch Harness feature has been improved to launch into a pop-up window.
  • The operator menu will now display from the Case Manager portal.
  • The Primary Page functionality has been enhanced for control-defined Repeating Tab Headers.
  • Using local actions defined as modal windows has been enhanced to work in an iPAD using a Safari browser.
  • When using a modal dialog to open a flow action in a repeat grid, to add an item to the list, users may now cancel out of this dialog if no changes are needed.

Access Manager portal

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.5

Changes to the Access Manager simplify the process of modifying the access rights of features for an application. The changes, including creation of an Access Manager portal, make it easier for non-technical users, such as business architects, to set access rights even if they may not have a deep understanding of Pega 7's security model and class inheritance structure.
