More efficient navigation between applications in App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

The new My Applications gadget helps you switch applications in App Studio more conveniently. You can also search applications by name instead of choosing an application from the list, and then select the access role that you want to use. In addition, you can see descriptions of your applications and create an application by going to the My Applications landing page. To use the My Applications gadget, ensure that you update the UI Kit to version 14.

For more information, see Adding the My Applications gadgetSwitching between applications in App Studio.

Consistent search experience in App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

Pega Platform™ now supports a unified search mechanism in App Studio. Instead of manually locating a single item, such as a case type, a channel, or a data object, you can simply use the Search option in the navigation pane. You can also use Search in case types and personas landing pages, to conveniently access the information that you need, for example channels and case types associated with a persona.

For more information, see Plan your Microjourneys more conveniently in an improved Case Designer (8.5)Creating a Microjourney for customer success.

Improved experience when building an IVA and Email Bot in App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

Build your Pega Intelligent Virtual Assistant™ (IVA) and Pega Email Bot™ while working only in App Studio. This approach makes the design process easier and more intuitive, and saves you time. You can now modify the advanced text analyzer configuration while working in App Studio. In addition, if you have access to Dev Studio, you can edit the text analyzer rule from App Studio for your chatbot or email bot by clicking a link to open the settings in Dev Studio.

For more information, see Adding a text analyzer for an email bot and Adding a text analyzer for an IVA.

Improved management of batch indexing

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

You can now cancel and check the status of a batch index process directly from the Search landing page in Dev Studio. The landing page now refreshes automatically every 10 seconds so that you can easily see the most recent status of the batch index process. Additionally, the reindex operation is now 20% faster than in previous versions. These features provide greater visibility into batch indexing and improve your ability to fix issues with a batch indexing process.

For more information about batch indexing, see Rebuilding search indexes from the user interface.

Database

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

Improvements to data handling were made for search indexing, agent processing, and filtering.  Scripts were provided for proper population of the database tables.

  • Importing data from shared obj-external tables is now supported.
  • A validation warning will now display when an unexposed property is used in filter or join conditions.
  • A Global Search index may now be created across two databases.
  • Agent processing on multiple nodes has been improved.
  • Improvements were made to controls in Report Definition pages which are used in a dynamic grid.
  • Filtering functionality involving special characters has been enhanced.
  • Scripts have been provided to populate the RuleSetVersion Major, Minor, and Patch columns.

Support for regular performance alerts

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

You can now specify how often Pega Platform™ sends you performance alerts about SLA violations in data flow runs. By default, the interval is 5 seconds for single case data flows and 5 minutes for batch and real-time data flows.

The following dynamic system settings control the alert interval:

  • Single case runs: dataflow/singlecase/alert/throttleTime
  • Batch runs: dataflow/batch/alert/throttleTime
  • Real-time runs: dataflow/realtime/alert/throttleTime

For more information, see PEGA0062 alert: Data flow execution time above threshold.

Enhanced refresh token strategy

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

You now have more precise control over your refresh token expiration strategy. When a refresh token is enabled, you can choose to set its initial expiration based on the value provided by the IDP. The refresh token expiry can be derived from IDP’s session timeout when SSO is used with external IDP for user authentication in the authorization code grant flow. You can also specify a separate refresh token expiration strategy based on your use-case.

These can be configured in the OAuth2 Client registration rule form.

For more information, see Enhanced refresh token strategy.

Decision Management

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

This release contains a number of fixes that improve the configuration and execution of Batch decisions – specifically, a number of usability improvements and addresses some issues when creating strategies on IE8.

  • Batch Decision functionality has been enhanced in the NBAM environment.
  • In NBAM, users can run the strategy execution batch based on the Seed list class instead of the customer class.
  • Interaction data will now work even if Action or Organization  dimensions do not have values set.
  • Running a strategy which includes a Data Import of a structured page reference will work in batch mode.
  • Security was enhanced on the VBD Planner.
  • The Access of Role to Object rules have been enhanced to allow users to create new Dimension Operator records.
  • The NBAM Segment On Canvas will now fetch the SegMap data, even when the generated extended segment class has not been added to the Pages and Classes of the strategy.  The SegMap property will (if it exists) be added to a list of properties to fetch, even if the strategy indicates that it is not used.
  • When a strategy is defined on a customer class, users may now specify the list of required properties to fetch for the input definition.
  • When creating a new strategy, there is now a section to add a Strategy Results class like Business Issue or Group.

Responsive layout groups and grids

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

The Responsive UI was introduced in Version 7.1, and has now been enhanced in two areas, to create an entirely responsive UI.

PRPC 7.1.4 introduces the Layout Group control, which can render its contents as “tabs,” “accordions,” or as a “menu.”  The rendering choice is driven through the presentation layout (the skin), which presents the information responsively:  a “tab” at a certain breakpoint can turn into an “accordion” or a dropdown-style menu, depending upon what format would be most appropriate for the device/screen size being used.

The grid functionality has also been enhanced, so that grids may be displayed on a tablet or a phone without the need for horizontal scrolling, offering the optimum experience on a mobile device.  A PRPC Grid Layout now supports responsive breakpoints in the skin definition in which columns can drop off or be consolidated according to screen size.

Designers will be able to mark columns in the grid by importance, and at the first breakpoint, the columns marked as “less important” will be dropped off first.  At the second breakpoint, the grid turns into a “fat list,” with the most important column displaying as a heading for each item in the “fat list.”  Styling options can be associated with these breakpoints.

Text analytics models editing and versioning

Valid from Pega Version 8.3

Pega Platform™ now supports editing and updating training data for text analytics models.

Pega Platform also supports the versioning of text analytics models. When you update the model, Prediction Studio creates an updated model version. You can then switch between the model versions.

Upgrade impact

In versions of Pega Platform earlier than 8.3, the training data for text models was stored in the database. In Pega Platform version 8.3 and later, the training data for text models is stored in Pega Repository. You cannot build new models without setting the repository. After the repository is set, all text models are automatically upgraded and will work normally.

What steps are required to update the application to be compatible with this change?

After a successful upgrade, set the repository in Prediction Studio before building or updating any Natural Language Processing (NLP) models.  In Prediction Studio, click Settings > Text Model Data Repository.
