Deprecated end user portals

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.1

The following portals are no longer be supported:

  • SysAdmDD
  • WorkUserDD
  • WorkManagerDD

As a best practice, customize standard, supported portals rather than update your existing portals to include new features.

Run cleanup.bat/sh script only before upgrading

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.1

Prior to upgrading the rulebase, you can optionally run the cleanup.bat/sh script to remove older rules from the database.

Run this script before you upgrade your rulebase, or the script may delete needed rulesets. For more information about running the cleanup.bat/sh script, refer to the Upgrade Guide specific to your release version.

Using Kerberos authentication with your database

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.1

Pega 7 supports Kerberos functionality. Kerberos is a computer network authentication protocol which allows nodes communicating over a non-secure network to prove their identity to one another in a secure manner.

To use Kerberos for authentication, you must use the command line to install or upgrade Pega 7.

To use Kerberos authentication:

1.  Change the setupDatabase.properties file.

a.  In the “Uncomment this property section” of the file, uncomment the jdbc.custom.connection.properties property.  Based on your security infrastructure, different properties may be required as parameters to this property; provide the needed properties as semicolon-delimited name/value pairs:

jdbc.custom.connection.properties=prop1=val1;prop2=val2;prop3=val3;

Example:  For an installation on a MSSQL database server from a Windows client machine (where both machines belong to the same Windows domain), using the Microsoft JDBC driver, the property may be set as follows:

jdbc.custom.connection.properties=integratedSecurity=true;

b.  Comment out all the username and password properties where they occur in the jdbc.custom.connection.properties file, so that they appear as follows:

# pega.jdbc.username db username
# pega.jdbc.password db password

[lines removed here]

# pega.jdbc.username=ADMIN
# pega.jdbc.password=ADMIN

2.  Set up your database to enable Kerberos functionality.  This may include additional vendor-specific JDBC driver configuration, or other setup procedures.  Check the documentation from your database vendor to determine what Kerberos setup is needed for your database.

3.  Run the command line installation or upgrade by following the instructions found in the Pega 7 Deployment guides.

System Management

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

Refinements were made to out-of-place upgrade documentation and processes, as well as for how handling is performed for all of the database vendor specific nuances related to a deploying into a split schema environment.

  • A script was created to run the data schema upgrade for z/OS systems.
  • In a split-schema configuration, indexing has been enhanced.
  • The product installer has been enhanced.
  • The stand-alone Static Assembly Utility does not require a password for its process.
  • The UpdateManager tool has been improved.

Supported JDBC drivers

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.1

Pega 7.1.1 supports Java 6 and Java 7 SDKs only. Ensure that the JDBC driver you are using supports those versions of Java. See your database installation or upgrade documentation for additional information.

DatabaseJava 6Java 7
Oracleojdbc6.jarojdbc7.jar
MSQLsqljdbc4.jarsqljdbc4.jar

DB2 z/OS*db2jcc4.jar or jdb2jcc.jar**db2jcc4.jar
PostgreSQLpostgresql-9.1-903.jdbc4.jar***postgresql-9.1-903.jdbc4.jar

* JDBC drivers are only available from the DB2 for z/OS product. Additionally, you need db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar in the same directory as db2jcc4.jar.

** The db2jcc.jar has been deprecated and may not be supported in future releases.

*** This .jar file is required for PostgreSQL version 9.1.x.

No direct upgrade to multitenant setup

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.1

It is not possible to upgrade directly to a multi-tenant setup. A Pega 7 application may be exported and then imported into a multi-tenant system, with the administrator making the decision as to whether this then becomes a tenant system or a shared system.

Applications developed in versions prior to Pega 7 must be upgraded to a Pega 7 standard system, and then exported and imported into a multi-tenant system. See the Multitenancy Administration Guide for full details.

Additional upgrade scripts for new columns

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

In Version 6.2, additional columns (Major, Minor, and Patch) containing ruleset Version information were added to 15 tables in the PRPC database. When upgrading from a pre-Pega 7 release, scripts must be manually run after the upgrade to populate these columns.

These scripts are located in the Resource Kit, under Additional Upgrade Scripts.

  • If upgrading to a single schema, run both scripts.
  • If upgrading to a split schema, run the _data script against the data schema and run the _rules script against the rules schema.
Depending upon your database type (platform) and the size of your database, these scripts may require significant time and system resources to run.

Choose the scripts for your database type:

  • db2zos_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • db2zos_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

  • mssql_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • mssql_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

  • oracle_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • oracle_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

  • postgres_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • postgres_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

  • udb_rulesetversion_columns_data.sql
  • udb_rulesetversion_columns_rules.sql

User Interface

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

This release had a focus around improving support for accessibility for all the PRPC UI Components as well as extending capabilities for responsive design with grids and tabs. A series of cosmetic changes and fixes are included.

  • Improvements have been made for action items being opened in a dynamic container.
  • Row repeat functionality in sections has been improved to better handle source properties.
  • Screen layouts have been optimized for the iPhone platform
  • The display on dynamic containers has been enhanced to provide the same behavior for both single-mode and multi-mode.
  • The Launch Harness feature has been improved to launch into a pop-up window.
  • The operator menu will now display from the Case Manager portal.
  • The Primary Page functionality has been enhanced for control-defined Repeating Tab Headers.
  • Using local actions defined as modal windows has been enhanced to work in an iPAD using a Safari browser.
  • When using a modal dialog to open a flow action in a repeat grid, to add an item to the list, users may now cancel out of this dialog if no changes are needed.

When using Oracle 12.1.0.1, left outer joins in reports may return incorrect results

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.1

When using  Pega 7 with Oracle 12.1.0.1 , reports that use left outer joins may return incorrect results.

This is an Oracle known issue.  To resolve this behavior, upgrade to Oracle 12.1.0.2, apply the Oracle patch 16726638 by requesting it directly from Oracle, or, for Microsoft Windows installations, apply Windows Bundle patch 12.1.0.1.15 or later.

For more information in this behavior, see: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_afrLoop=392085808201943&id=1957943.1

Integration

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.4

Critical customer-driven product improvements were made to SOAP services, SOAP connectors and connector wizard, CMIS connectors, and the Pega Image Viewer. These fixes addressed a handful of functionality gaps discovered in PRPC 7.1 and earlier releases by internal and external customers.

  • A Connect-CMIS instance which was created using a reference to an ATOM Server Instance may now use Global Resource Settings.
  • The Execute Synchronously (one-way operation) has been enhanced for SOAP Services.
  • The Silverlight version of PegaImageViewer has been enhanced to print ranges of multiple pages at once.
  • The SOAP Wizard has been improved to show all the ports which are available in the WSDL file.
  • Two way SSL has been enhanced for the Connect-REST rule.
