Pega Digital Experience API for creating consumer-grade interfaces

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can use front-end frameworks such as React and Angular to create a user interface that is backed by the powerful business logic of Pega Platform™. The updated Pega Digital Experience API leverages the OpenAPI Specification to enable Pega Platform to work with the front-end framework of your choice.

Accessibility Inspector identifies accessibility issues in real time

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

The new Accessibility Inspector finds accessibility issues in your application and helps you to quickly fix these issues. Accessible applications accommodate a range of users with varying degrees of visual ability and might be required by regulation. The Accessibility Inspector, which you open from the run-time toolbar, is displayed on the right side of the page and highlights content, structure, compatibility, and interaction issues. You can click through an accessibility warning to open the affected element and fix the issue. For more information, see Finding accessibility issues in Pega applications with the Accessibility Inspector.

New Email Manager portal

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

From the Email Manager portal you can more easily and quickly triage received emails and create business cases in a Pega Platform™ application. You can use the Email Manager portal with an application that is used with Intelligent Virtual Assistant for Email. The Email Manager portal suggests business cases for you to create from emails and automatically sends replies to a customer.

For more information, see Email Manager portal.

Create configurable node types with purpose-specific names

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

To meet your specific business needs, you can now configure your own node types that you can segregate by purpose, and also define their behavior. Pega Platform™ supports node types that you can associate with multiple resources, like agents or job schedulers. For ease of use, apply meaningful names to your node types.

For more information, see Node classification, Creating configurable node types.

View mini user profiles in Pulse

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can now view mini profiles of users who post messages and users who are referenced in Pulse, by clicking the name of the user. A mini profile contains the user's job title, reporting manager, organization, and links to call and send email to the user. By seeing a brief overview of a user profile, you can access important information about users and contact them more quickly.

For more information about Pulse, see:

Role-based workspaces improve productivity

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can now use workspaces to access role-based tools and features. By focusing on the tasks that align with your expertise, you can develop and manage your application more quickly.

For more information about the different types of workspaces, see Workspaces.

New roles required for system management features and APIs after upgrade

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

The pzSystemOperationsObserver and pzSystemOperationsAdministator privileges are no longer used for accessing system management features in Admin Studio and for system management APIs. Pega Platform™ has new privileges for individual system management functions and new roles configured with these privileges. Use the following roles to access system management features and APIs:

  • PegaRULES:SysOpsAdministrator – has all administrator and observer privileges
  • PegaRULES:SysOpsObserver – has all observer privileges
  • PegaRULES:SysAdm4 – has all administrator and observer privileges

After upgrading, you can include one or more of these roles in your access group or create a custom role. For more information about access roles, see Access roles.

Feature management added to App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can now create and manage features in App Studio. Because this functionality is no longer restricted to Dev Studio, you can encourage all team members to adopt feature-driven development, which improves the traceability from your requirements to their respective implementations.

For more information, see Feature-driven development.

Application overview added to App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

High-level information about an application, such as the available channel interfaces, case types, and data types, is now available in App Studio. By monitoring your project from a holistic point of view, you can make informed decisions about how and where you want to allocate your development resources.

For more information, see Application overview.

Click, record, and play UI scenario tests

Valid from Pega Version 8.1

You can now record, edit, and run scenario-based UI tests in end-user portals. By using scenario-based tests, developers focus on testing an application's ability to deliver real business value instead of writing code. Developers can test autogenerated and custom controls, actions, and navigation in a specific case or in an entire portal. Test recording is available on the run-time toolbar, and tests are available on a unified landing page that provides easy access to them. For more information, see Find and fix issues by using the Accessibility Inspector.
