Authentication service for basic credentials

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

A new type of authentication service is available for authenticating operators by using basic credentials (user ID and password). The default Pega Platform™ login is now an instance of this type of authentication service. All basic credentials authentication services include mobile authentication with the OAuth 2.0 protocol and Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE). You no longer have to create a custom authentication service to support mobile applications.

For more information, see Configuring a basic authentication service.

Manage test ID access with an access group role

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

Test IDs for user interface components are available only to users who have the PegaRULES:TestID role added to their access group. This requirement allows administrators to limit access to test IDs to users who create or run tests. At run time, applications do not include the test ID data for users without the PegaRULES:TestID role, which reduces the amount of code that is downloaded to the client.

For more information see Managing Test ID access with an access group role

Date range configuration added to DateTime control

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

The DateTime (calendar) control now includes an option to specify a custom date range. The users will be able to quickly select valid start and end days of a period by choosing dates in an interactive calendar in an overlay.

For more information, see Configuring the basic settings for a DateTime control - date range

Changes to the Attach Content control in Pega Client for Windows

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

Users who access offline-enabled Pega Platform™ applications from Pega Client for Windows can now use the Attach Content control within a case view to attach files with a native file picker control or take screenshots with a device camera. Images are immediately attached to the case, and image file names are based on a time stamp. If a device has no camera, the client skips the source selection step and the native file picker control opens.

For more information, see Harness and Sections forms – Adding an Attach Content control.

Date range option added to DateTime control

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

The autogenerated DateTime control, used in forms, now features a custom date range option in the calendar picker. To specify a time period, click the From date and To date fields on an interactive calendar overlay. This input method is both convenient and mobile-friendly.

Manage access to the content in your spaces and cases

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

To more efficiently manage your content, you can grant access to documents only to specific space or case members in a portal that you use. Use this option to provide users with content that is tailored to their specific needs. Provide contextual and consistent documents for your users for more effective communication and case management.

Support for rich user interface controls in IVA for Web Chatbot

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

You can now use rich user interface controls in Pega Intelligent Virtual Assistant™ (IVA) for Web Chatbot because Pega Platform™ includes a framework for advanced user interface controls. You can use a date picker control and add file attachments while chatting with the chatbot. These features provide a richer and more robust user experience and they help the user accomplish tasks more quickly without the need for complex validation messages.

For more information, see Use rich user interface controls in Web Chatbot.

Mashup code preview in App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

When you create a mashup channel for your application, you can now eliminate issues with the code and create better looking applications, by using the portal preview in App Studio. You can preview a channel to verify that different types of devices correctly display the mashup code. The preview functionality uses a default wrapper that functions as a portal for displaying a frame with the mashup code. You can modify the appearance of the default wrapper, and adapt the mashup user interface in design mode to meet your requirements.

For more information, see
Configuring the Mashup channel and Previewing an application.

Elasticsearch reports support string comparison operators

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

To improve performance, reports that use string comparison operators in filters can now run queries against Elasticsearch instead of querying the database. The following operators are now supported for Elasticsearch queries.

  • Starts with, Ends with, Does not start with, and Does not end with
  • Contains and Does not contain
  • Greater than, Less than, Greater than or equal, and Less than or equal

In cases where a query cannot be run against Elasticsearch, the query is run against the database, for example, if the query includes a join. To determine if a query was run against Elasticsearch, use the Tracer and enable the Query resolution event type. For more information, see Tracer event types to trace.

Data flow life cycle monitoring

Valid from Pega Version 8.2

You can now generate a report from the Run details section of a Data Flow rule that provides information about run events. The report includes reasons for specific events which you can analyze to troubleshoot and debug issues more quickly. You can export the report and share it with others, such as Global Customer Support.

For more information about accessing event details, see Creating a real-time run for data flows and Creating a batch run for data flows.
