You can perform a private checkout of a rule that is typically not available for a regular check out. For example, you can check out a rule that another user has checked out. A private rule is saved your personal ruleset and is visible only to you.
You can perform a private check out so that you can test changes that you make to a rule. You should not check in rules that you have privately checked out, because conflicts might be introduced.
For example, another user has checked out a rule and is modifying it. Because the rule is checked out, you perform a private check out and make changes to it. If you check in the private rule after the other user checks in the rule, you will overwrite the rule that the other user has modified.
The Private edit button appears when all the following criteria are met:
You have the pxAllowPrivateCheckout privilege, which is typically granted through a role on your access group. The standard access role PegaRULES:SysAdm4 provides this privilege.
The rule is not available for regular checkout, usually because it is already checked out to another user or because its ruleset version is locked.
The rule belongs to a ruleset that has the checkouts enabled.
In your operator ID form, the Allow rule check out check box on the Security tab is selected.
