Building an iOS app

To create an iOS mobile app from a Pega Platform-based web application, navigate to the Channels and interfaces form in Designer Studio.

Before you can build, run, or distribute a mobile app for the iOS platform, you must generate several certificates in the Apple Developer Portal: mobile provisioning, distribution, and optionally, widget provisioning and Apple Push Notification service (APNs) that are used for push notifications. You then must upload the generated certificates to the Pega Platform and save them in a certificate set. To create an iOS mobile app from a web application, follow these steps:

1. In Designer Studio, click the name of your application and click Channels and interfaces.

2. Choose one of the following options.

   If the custom mobile app exists:

   1. In the Current channel interfaces section, click a custom mobile app icon.
   2. Click the Build tab.
   3. In the Configuration section, verify the required fields.
   If you did not create a custom mobile app:

   1. In the Create new channel interface section, click Mobile.
   2. In the Configuration section, enter a name for the iOS mobile app.
   3. In the Mobile app type property, click Custom.

3. In the Platforms section, turn on the iOS switch.
4. In the Certificate Set section, set up a certificate set for the app:
   • If a certificate set does not exist, click New and create a certificate set.
   • If a certificate set has already been created, select an existing certificate set. You might have to click Modify build to display the list.
     
5. Optional: Expand the Advanced section within the iOS Platform section:
   • In the Version field, enter the release version for your app. See also Auto-incrementing app build version.
   • Set up debugging options.
6. Optional: Expand the Advanced section below the App branding section:
   • Set up a password enforcement option.
   • Set up alternative server URL.
7. Click Build now or click Modify build, if you have already built the app at least once.

The files are sent to the build server and are used to build the .ipa file for the iOS app.
