End of support for form-based rule forms in Pega 7.1.9

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.9

Rule forms that are configured to render as forms are no longer supported in Designer Studio or end-user applications. Form-based configurations are found on custom rule types that were created in earlier versions of Pega 7 and are characterized by pop-up windows that are rendered externally from Designer Studio.

Reconfigure Pega 7 applications that use such rule forms by using standard harnesses and sections.

  1. Open the class form.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Select Harness from the Rule formmenu.
  4. Create a new harness and new sections that implement the logic of the custom rule, using standard user interface layouts and controls.

Migrating custom rule forms to harnesses and sections offers the following benefits:

  • User interfaces become HTML5 WC3 compatible and responsive to different screen sizes.
  • User interfaces become cross-browser compatible, rendered consistently in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and recent versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  • Rendering performance on modern browsers is dramatically improved.
  • User interface pop-up behavior is eliminated; all windows are rendered inside Designer Studio and end-user applications.

Pega 7 Express is available on-premises

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.9

You can now experience Pega 7 Express by switching your enterprise application from Designer Studio to express mode. By default, users with access to the Developer portal can switch between these two development environments. You can also create an express application to work in express mode exclusively.

Trial versions of Pega 7 Express continue to be available on the cloud. To view the documentation for both the cloud and on-premises environments, see Getting started with Pega 7 Express.

Access to Pega 7 Express from within Designer Studio is not supported on mobile devices.

Context-specific documentation is not available in express mode

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.9

Help topics that are opened from express mode display content that is specific to Designer Studio.

If your system is dedicated to applications that are developed in express mode exclusively, and you do not need Designer Studio help topics, you can set the Online Help URL field on the System Settings landing page to: https://pdn.pega.com/sites/default/files/help_p7e/procomhelpmain.htm. Alternatively, you can view the contextual help system for Pega 7 Express in a separate browser tab.

Design-time limitations in express mode

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.9

Some limitations apply when you develop an enterprise application in express mode. At design time, some features are disabled or have limited options when you configure them in Designer Studio and switch to express mode. The use of these features does not restrict the run-time behavior of your application; however, you cannot change the configuration of these features unless you switch from express mode to Designer Studio.

For more information about each limitation and the recommended action to take, see the following information:

Execute Tests service now supports flows, case types, and PegaUnit test suites

Valid from Pega Version 7.3

The Execute Tests service now supports running flows, case types, PegaUnit test suites. Use the Execute Tests service to validate the quality of your builds after every build run.

For more information, see Running PegaUnit test cases and test suites with the Execute Tests service.

Support for creating PegaUnit test suites

Valid from Pega Version 7.3

You can now create PegaUnit test suites to group related PegaUnit test cases and run them in the order that you specify. For example, you can create smoke tests to verify that critical application functionality is working as expected.

For more information, see PegaUnit test suites.

Enable and disable functionality with feature toggles

Valid from Pega Version 7.3

You can enable and disable functionality in your application for development and testing by creating feature toggles on the Toggle Management landing page. You can also manage the toggles in your application from the landing page. For example, you can review the toggles that you want to retire at the end of a release, or migrate a toggle to other applications by changing the associated ruleset.

For more information, see Creating a toggle.

Support for following users in the Pega Express and Case Manager portals

Valid from Pega Version 7.3

You can now follow users in both the Pega Express and Case Manager portals. Posts that are made by users whom you are following are displayed in your Pulse activity feed in your dashboard. In addition, an icon indicates whether followed users are online.

For more information, see the following help topics:

Enhancements to the Send Email smart shape

Valid from Pega Version 7.3

The following enhancements have been made to the Send Email smart shape:

  • You can now configure the Send Email smart shape in Pega Express.
  • You can use templates, such as a rejection template, in your email.
  • You can use property values, which allow you to insert the value of a field in your case type, such as First Name, within the email.
  • You can insert a link to the case ID in your email.
  • You can more quickly configure your recipient list by using two options, instead of one, to send messages to either a list of email addresses or to fields.
  • You can choose to send either all case attachments in an email, or you can send attachments of a specified attachment category or an attachment type field. You can specify multiple attachment categories and attachment type fields.

For more information, see the following help topics:

Improved requestor management

Valid from Pega Version 7.3

From the Requestor Management landing page, you can now manage active requestors and debug their activity on all nodes in the cluster, including the current node and remote nodes. You can view performance and requestor details; start the Tracer or Clipboard tool; profile, interrupt, or terminate the selected requestor; and estimate the data size of all requestors on the selected node.

For more information, see Managing requestors.
