A goal is a time interval; a goal time is an instant in time.

• A goal is the first and shorter of two time intervals defined in a service level rule. This interval is a sum of days, hours, minutes, and seconds and may relate to a specific calendar or time zone. (The second time interval is known as the deadline.)
• When a service level rule is associated with an assignment, a work object, or other instance, the system determines the start time for a goal (for that instance) and then adds the goal interval to calculate a specific goal time and date, a moment.

On the worklist display, a yellow clock icon () next to a row indicates that the goal time for this assignment is less than 24 hours in the future. (Control rule TimeLimitUrgency defines this interval. Property Assign-.pyTimeLimitUrgency holds this image.) GREEL 12/18/08

Backward chaining computations are sometimes known as goal-seeking, because the system has the goal of computing a value for a property that has no value, which it achieves through setting goals internally. Such processing is not related to service level goals.
