Back Forward Setting Application Explorer preferences

Purpose

PROJ-118 and Proj-161 MELLJ Task-960 5.3 Complete the Application Explorer options panel to view or revise the rule types and the scope of rules displayed in the Application Explorer.

By default, the Application Explorer shows rules associated with RuleSets associated with a single work pool. Based on this work pool, the system develops a collection or RuleSets known as Application RuleSets, assembled from the General tab of the associated application rule or rules.

Complete this panel to add work pools or determine which additional RuleSets appear in the Application Explorer tree.

Showing more rules (as you specify in this panel) may speed your access to the rules you need to open. Showing fewer rules allows this tool to load faster and requires less workstation memory.

Access

To review or update the scope of the Application Explorer:

  1. Select Preferences from the Designer Studio profile menu.
  2. Open the View preferences panel.
  3. Optionally, set the Hierarchy and Display Type fields (in the Display group) to affect the order and label of items in the Application Explorer tree.
  4. Click  App Explorer in the Customize control group to review or modify other preferences, as described below.
  5. Complete the panel that appears as described in the next section.
  6. Click  Save to close the panel.
  7. Click  Save to close the Preferences window. The changes take effect immediately.

Completing the panel

Complete these fields and click  Save to specify which rules your Application Explorer displays.

Field

Description

Default to

SmartPromptSelect to control which class appears as the root of the Application Explorer tree structure when you select a work pool name:

  • Workpool — The class corresponding to the work pool name appears as the root of the tree.
  • Pattern Top — The top-level class that is the pattern-inheritance ancestor class of the work pool appears as the root of the tree. In the drop-down list, the class appears in light green text.

For example, if the work pool container class is AlphaCorp-Finance-Mortgage and you set this field to Workpool, the Application Explorer presents the class structure below AlphaCorp-Finance-Mortgage. If you set this field to Pattern Top, the Application Explorer presents the larger class structure below AlphaCorp-, which may include other classes and rules you need to access frequently.

The default is Workpool; this matches the behavior and presentation in V5.2 and earlier.

Preference BlueA larger tree structure requires more workstation resources and may load and operate less quickly.

In the drop-down listing, the Default class appears in light blue text and is marked with an asterisk.

Preference GreenIf the work pool class is distinct from the Default class, it appears in light green on the drop-down listing. BUG-12668

Non-ApplyTo Instances

Controls which instances appear of rule types (such as Rule-HTML-Property, Rule-Portal, and Rule-PortalSkin) that do not have an Applies To class as the first key part. Select:

  • Default Class only — Instances of rules that do not have an Applies To class as a first key part appear in the tree display beneath the class determined by the Default to field or the class in the Show Default class field, if set.
  • All Classes — Instances of rules that do not have an Applies To class as a first key part appear at every class level in the tree structure, rather than only at the Default to class.
Rule Type Preferences

Select one or more of these 14 check boxes to control which categories (groups of rule and data types) are visible in the Application Explorer. For example, select the Process check box to include flow rules, tickets, service level rules and other rule types in the Process category. 5.4 PROJ-828

Add

Click to add a blank row to the table.

Remove

Click to remove a row from the table.

For workpool

SmartPromptOptional. Select a work pool; the list reflects those available to you through your access group.

Show Default Class

SmartPromptSelect a class to appear as the root of the Application Explorer tree when you select the work pool in the For work pool field. The class you select overrides the class in the Default To field, when you switch to this work pool.

Typically, select a work type that matches or belongs to the work pool in the For workpool field, but you can select any class to which you have access. BUG-4874

With Additional RuleSets

SmartPromptOptional. Associate one or more RuleSets with this row. When you select the work pool corresponding to this row, the Application Explorer display includes rules from these RuleSets.
