Back Forward About the Application Express tool

  Show all

The Application Express is a development tool that lets you quickly create and prototype a simple starter application for experimentation, demonstration, and learning with a minimum of input values. Laplm Proj-435 6.1.2

NoteThis tool is not part of the Direct Capture of Objectives (DCO) set of implementation tools.

Starting the Application Express

From the Application Menu of the Designer Studio, select New Application > Application Express.

 Completing the input sections

Application Express builds an application with minimum entry using no more than three input sections. During entry, click the icon to display help for each input screen in a separate window. When entry is complete, click Build the Application to create the application then click Finish to resolve the accelerator instance and switch to the new application.

Section

Description

Application Overview Window

Required. Displays in a separate window when the accelerator starts. Enter a name for your application. This also sets the naming convention for classes and RuleSets, the work type, and flow in the application. Click OK to save your entry and continue defining the application.

Actors Window

Optional. To display, select Actors from the Actions list at the top right of the accelerator screen. Enter one or more actors. Click OK to save your entry and close the window.

Discovery Map

Recommended. Displays in the main workspace. Use the discovery map to build a simple process flow for the application in business terms that also can include use cases, requirements and properties.

If you do not build out the discovery map, the application is still created but with a minimal starting structure and rules.

 Application Express results

Each Application Express instance is a work object with an ID prefixed with AE. This allows you to save it while in process or to reopen it and reuse it. To access open and resolved accelerator instances, select > Application >Tools > All Wizards.

This is an example of the class and rule structure created by the Application Express for a very simple application named MYapp that has a work type named Request associated with a flow, use cases, requirements, and properties in the Discovery Map.

 Next steps

After the Application Express completes, you can test the application or evolve it further:
