Distributing mobile apps

Updated on October 27, 2021

When your native mobile apps are ready for distribution, obtain the app installation packages and decide on the most suitable options to effectively share those apps with your Android and iOS users.

Downloading installation packages

After you build a mobile app, download the app installation package to your device. You can also share the app with other users by providing them with a direct download link or QR code.

Before you begin: Generate an app installation package for the operating system of your choice. For more information, see Building mobile apps.
After you generate an installation package in the mobile channel for your app at least once, the build panel includes several methods that you can use to download or distribute the package.
  1. Open your mobile channel:
    1. In the navigation pane of App Studio, click Channels.
    2. In the Current channel interfaces section, click the tile that represents a mobile channel for your app.
  2. In the upper-right corner of the mobile channel configuration page, select the operating system for which you want to download the installation package:
    • To download the installation package for an iOS app, click the Build iOS app icon.
    • To download the installation package for an Android app, click the Build Android app icon.
The Build iOS app and Build Android app icons in the mobile preview
The image shows the highlighted icons in the upper-right corner of the preview pane in the mobile channel.
  3. In the Build app pane, download the installation package:
    • To download the installation package from your browser, click Share this appDownload.
    • To download the installation package to a mobile device, scan the available QR code with the device of your choice.
What to do next: You can use the following distribution methods to make your app available to users:
  • Publish the app on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
  • Use a third-party Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution.
  • Share the QR code or a direct URL to download the app.
Note: QR codes and download links are unique to either iOS or Android app builds. Do not share an operating system-specific code or link across different platforms.
