Trademarking and copyright rules

Updated on January 21, 2021

Use the following guidelines for trademarking product and company names in our documentation and other content.

Pega Community

For a list of the current trademarks, see the latest Pega Product Catalog.

When you refer to a Pega product in text, use the full name of the product and include the trademark symbol at the first occurrence of the name. The full product name includes Pega at the beginning of the name, for example:
  • Pega Platform
  • Pega Customer Decision Hub

Use the following format when referring to Pega Cloud Services: Pega Cloud Services.

We mark the first instance of Pega product names with a trademark symbol in the body text (not in titles, headings, or links) of Pega Community content, such as articles and release notes. (From the beginning of 2020, this includes Pega Infinity, but do not shorten this name to Infinity).
Note: We no longer use any trademark symbol (no or ) after Pega.
To add a trademark symbol to a product name, click the Insert Special Character button (Ω) on the Editing toolbar, and click the TM symbol.

After the first occurrence of the product name, you omit the trademark symbol. You also use shortened product name if applicable. The shortened product name usually does not include Pega, except for certain specific products, such as Pega Platform or Pega Infinity.

Help topics and PDF documentation

The copyright and trademarks notice that is included in the help and in PDF documentation covers our usage of product and company names, including the trademarks of Pegasystems and other companies. Do not manually add trademark symbols to any product names or company names in documentation topics.

Beginning in 2018, the Pega legal department approved an abbreviated copyright and trademark notice to use with short (up to 10 pages) documents such as quick start guides. This abbreviated notice has been added to the Word templates that are used for this type of content.

Titles, headings, and links

Do not add the trademark to any title, heading, or link anywhere in our documentation.

Captions

Do not use trademark symbols in the captions to figures or embedded media, anywhere in our documentation.

Names of other companies and products

Do not insert trademark symbols for the names of other companies or for the product names or features of other companies in our information (help topics, PDF documentation, and Pega Community content). The copyright and trademark statements in the help and on Pega Community cover the usage of other company names and their products.

When you refer to third-party product names, for the first occurrence of the product name in the text of a topic or article, include the name of the company with the product name, for example:

  • Microsoft Excel
  • Apache Tomcat
  • IBM Db2
  • IBM WebSphere
When referring to third-party company names, use the official name of the company, for example Microsoft (not MS).

Examples: Using the trademark symbol with products, programs, and services

For industry-specific offerings, the core product names are always followed by a ™, and the industry descriptor follows.

Core product examplesIndustry-specific product examples
Pega Sales Automation™ for InsurancePega Underwriting™ for Insurance
Pega Sales Automation™ for HealthcarePega Product Composer™ for Healthcare
Pega Customer Decision Hub™ for CommunicationsPega Onboarding™ for Financial Services
Pega Customer Service™ for InsurancePega Configure Price Quote™ for Communications
Pega Customer Service™ for Healthcare

Note: If names do not include an industry descriptor (such as for Healthcare, for Insurance, and so on), place the ™ symbol after the last word in the name, for example, Pega Pharmacovigilance™.

Using Pega with non-product (descriptive) names

When you use generic descriptive names, use “Pega” to establish brand ownership, even after the first mention. For example, Pega Customer Decision Hub application or Pega Mobile solution. No trademark symbol is required with these types of names.
